Massage and treatment are part of every Kalari system, as the training in kalari with weapons can cause accidental injuries.Kalari Gurukkal is specialized in neurology and orthopedics to treat any such casualities. Apart from the Ayurvedic treatment, kalari has a specialized method of treatment called “Marma chikitsa”, treating the damages on vital parts of the body.As alredy stated, out of the 107 vital spots of the body 64 of them are fatal if injured, and this system of treatment cures injuries to any such parts.

The Kalari uzhichil and massage are done using medicated oils (Thailams), pastes specially prepared by kalarimasters after studying the nature of sickness and the physic of the patient. Muscular injuries, broken bones,back ache, joint pains, spondilytis, arthritis and rheumatic diseases are treated with precision in kalari treatment. All ayurvedic medicines are prepared from specially selected herbal extract, herbal oils, animal products and naturally occurring minerals.

Massage:
Massage is an effective cure for external damages to the body using hands or feet depending upon the case. Massage stimulates and relaxes the muscles. The skin, blood, and lymphatic systems are stimulated, blood circulation improved and removes toxic wastes from the body cells.Depending upon the depth of massage the millions of nerve endings are stimulated and soothed.Massage maintains the collage fibres,that gives skin its elasticity and strength , and keeps wrinkles at bay.The activity of sweat and sebaceous glands are improved and moisturize the skin. Another advantage of massage is that it improves the blood circulation,and thereby the agility of mind and body. 

Massages can be merely classified as:

Sukh Thirummu : Massage for body comfort and physical relaxation.
Raksha Thirummu: Massage for curing ailments using specially prepared ayurvedic herbal oils.

Katcha Thirummu: This provides flexibility to the body and essential for those practicing martial arts and classical dances

Treatment :
Once the ailment is defined Kalari gurukkal uses various methods of ayurvedic treatment or a combination of
many methods. A few of them are mentioned below.
KIZHI
Kizhi, a cloth pouch filled with medicine, heated in boiled oil is applied on the body. The Kizhi is useful in removing swells and for the treatment of rheumatism, back pain etc. The name of the Kizhi is in accordance with the medicines used in it. Namely Navarakkizhi, Elakkizhi, Podikkizhi, Manhakkizhi etc.

DHARA
Dhara is a method of treatment by pouring warm medicated oil on different parts of the body and head using a particular equipment.
Dhara, is divided into three in accordance with the part of the body where the treatment is done.
"Moordhania Dhara" (Dhara done on head)
"Sarvanga Dhara" (on the whole body)
"Ekanga Dhara" (on any particular part of body)
Moordhania Dhara is a treatment for diseases of head, eye, nose, ear and face and also for some particular types of rheumatism.
Sarvanga Dhara gives relief from body ache, sprain etc. It is also done for body rejuvenation.
Ekanga Dhara is performed on particular parts of the body for body aches, sprains etc.
The name of the Dhara varies according to the medicine used. 'Thakra Dhara' (using Butter milk), 'Ksheera Dhara' (using Milk) and 'Sneha Dhara' (using Ghee, Oils etc) are some of them.

PIZHICHIL
Pizhichil is similar to Dhara, but no equipments are used, it is done by hand.

BACK PAIN TREATMENT
