But, if you get a chance to take in the beauty of the wild and the life that goes on, why not do it from above, while you are on the move? Yes, the view from the top is different and could be more interesting if it is on an elephant.

Offering you one such opportunity in the forests located at the base of the famed Agasthya Hills, visitors may now go for a Jumbo trek. Majestically seated on top of an elephant, the half an hour jungle trip begins at Kappukadu boat landing point near Kattakkada, located near the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram.

Jointly promoted by the Department of Wildlife and Kottur Eco-development Committee, this recently started venture has been attracting lots of nature lovers, bird watchers etc. The half-an-hour jungle trip is quite a refreshing experience. With the cool breeze of the valley with forests that are home to numerous medicinal plants, the jungle ride often becomes an invigorating experience.

The ride starting from the Kappukadu boat landing point goes through the dense forests of Iravupara before finally returning to Kappukadu. The area is a great spot to watch many species of butterflies and also a great spot for bird enthusiasts.

Kappukadu is also home to tamed elephants, both young ones and grown ups, which are an added attraction besides the jungle ride. The jungle ride is conducted by the Tribal Eco-development Committee at Kappukadu and the current charge for the half-an-hour ride is Rs. 100.
