Padmanabhaswamy temple is a famous Hindu temple of Lord Vishnu, located inside the Fort in city of Thiruvananthapuram, kerala, india.

The temple is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian style of architecture. It is a best example of South Indian architecture, with an impressive seven -story gopuram (tower).A flagstaff encased in gold stands in the huge courtyard.It is known for its murals and carvings. In the main courtyard, the Kulashekara mandapam, there is some intricate granite sculpture and nearly 400 pillars are supporting the temple corridors. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple and they have rules of clothing. Even the male Hindus, must enter the temple wearing only white dhoti.

The festivals are held during the months of Meenam and Thulam (March-April and October-November respectively), according to the Malayalam calendar. Pallivetta (Royal hunt) and Arattu (Holy bath) are two important rituals held as part of the festivals.

Also, the rituals Lakshadeepam and Murajapam are conducted at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple once in six years.

The temple is managed by the Royal family of Travancore. Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) and adjacent places were part of the former Travancore kingdom. The temple is noted for its mural painting and stone carvings.
