Pathanamthitta is a town situated in the very heart of the Central Travancore region of Kerala State, India. The town has a population of 38,000. It is known as the 'Pilgrim Capital of Kerala'. Pathanamthitta is a fast-developing town and business center. It is the main transport hub to the famous Hindu pilgrim center of Sabarimala. Pathanamthitta is a cosmopolitan town, with people of different faiths like Hindus, Christians, and Muslims live in harmony.

Pathanamthitta is a combination of two words Pathanam and Thitta which means an array of houses on the river side. This district was formed on 1st November 1982 with a view to hastenng the process of development. The total area of the district is 2642 sq.kms; of this 1300.73 sq.kms come under forest.

Climate

The place experiences a tropical climate, with monsoon starting its sway in June. During April and May, the place gets pretty humid. Temperature settles within a minimum of 22.0 degree Celsius and during summers, the temperature may go up to a maximum of 37.0 degree Celsius.

Best Time To Visit

August to March will be the best season to visit Patthanamthitta, so that you won’t miss the Aranmula Vallamkali (Aranmula Boat Race) during the Onam Season. Best weather: October-February
