Peermede, this famous plantation town got its name from Peer Mohammed, the Sulfi saint who was a close associate of the erstwhile royal family of Travancore. Wide vistas of tea, rubber, cardamom and coffee plantation interspersed with silver cascades, meadows, sculptural rocks and mist-cloaked hilltops of Peermade render an unforgettable experience to any visitor, both native and foreign

The Orali, Malapandaram and Malayarayan tribes live in the hills of Peermede. The main tribal settlement here is Plakkathadam which is also known for its trekking trails
