Pathanamthitta, a hilly terrain of pristine beauty is popular as the headquarters of pilgrim worship in Kerala. More than fifty per cent of the total area of this land of temples, rivers, mountain ranges and coconut groves is covered by forests. The district is frequented by visitors from India and abroad often for its water fiestas, religious shrines and the cultural training centre. Pathanamthitta is bordered by the Western Ghats on the east, Kollam district on the south, Alappuzha district on the west and Kottayam and Idukki districts on the north.

Aranmula : The picturesque Hindu pilgrim center is located on the banks of the river Pamba. The famous temple here is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The place is famouse for the Aranmula Vallamkalli (Boat Race). The another main attraction is Aranmula Mirror. Aranmula Mirrior carved and polished out of a special metal is unique and world famous. Cherukolpuzha:
 Cherukolpuzha Hindu convention, an annual religious meet on the river bed at Cherukolpuzha, Ayroor. [ 4 km from kozhenchery.]

Shabarimala : The sacred abode of Lord Ayyappa. It is one of the most important Hindu pilgrim centers in the country and the world famous pilgrim center for all people of the world. The Holy Shrine is located amidst dense forest in the rugged terrains of Western ghats, in habited by various wild life species. [72 km from Pathanamthitta ]

Pandalam: 
Pandalam is historically important as the legend is that Shabarimala Ayyappan had his childhood connections with the Pandalam Royal-family.

Erumeli: Is a famous camping center of Shabarimala devotees and a symbolic place of legends of Hindu – Muslim unity. The Museums to Shabarimala meet at Erumeli and use it as a base camp before starting trekking.

Niranam :
 Niranam is famous on account of St. Mary’s Orthodox Old Christian Chruch, belived to have been founded by Apostle St. Thomas in 52 A.D. [40 from kottayam ]

Kaviyoor : On the banks of the river Manimala. On the top of a hill, is aHanuman Temple In the typical kerala style with a rock cut temple in the Pallava style nearby.

Kozhenchery :
 Maramon Christian Convention on the river sand bed of Pamba River under the auspices of the Marthoma Church in February every year is world famous.

Nilakal : The Place exhibit unity of Hindu and Christian. An old Shiva Temple and the ecumenical center of Christians are located here.

Manjanikkara : A famous pilgrim center as Mar Ignatius Elias III, Patriach of Anpthyokia died here and was buried in the church here.
Konni: 11 kms from Pathanamthitta, an agricultural region, Konni is rich in cash crops like rubber, pepper, coffee, ginger etc. IT is also used as a centre for training elephants.

Mannadi : This is where Veluthampi Dalawa, the renowned freedom fighter of Travancore, spent his last days. The ancient Bhagavathy Temple here contains some interesting stone sculptures. Mannadi isalso the venue of the Kerala Institute of Folklore and Folk Arts.

Muloor Smarakam (Memorial) : 
The memorial to Muloor, a renowned reformer and poet, is located at Elavumthitta.
Omallur (Cattle fair): The Rakthakanta Swamy Temple and the annual cattle fair held in the Malayalam month of ‘Meenam’ are the main attractions of Omallur. People from all around Kerala and also many other states participate in the fair.

Charalkunnu Hill station : The picturesque hill station offers apanoramic view of the nearby valleys. A camp house on the hill provides comfortable lodging.

Perumthenaruvi : 
Perumthenaruvi is a famous waterfall on the banks of the River Pamba. Here, the water flows down a rocky bed into a ravine 60 to 100 feet deep. The place is a favourite picnic spot for both domestic and foreign tourists.

Vijana Kala Vedi Cultural Centre : Louba Schild, a French scholar under the Indo-French Cultural Exchange Programme, who started this centre with UNESCO support, founded this famous cultural centre.The centre offers residential training courses, in Kerala’s traditional arts & crafts like Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kalaripayattu, Music, wood carving etc

Kakki Reservoir : 
Tigers, elephants and monkeys can be sighted inthe forest surrounding the reservoir.

River Pamba:
 This is the main halting point on the way to Sabarimala, the famous pilgrim centre. It is also known as ‘Thriveni Sangamam’, the meeting point of three rivers.
